Venice Area Audubon Society Rookery

Venice Area Audubon Society Rookery

The Venice Area Audubon Rookery, internationally known to bird photographers, is freely open to all visitors from dawn to dusk every day of the year.

During nesting months (usually beginning in December and lasting through May), daytime activity includes Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets, Anhingas, Snowy Egrets, Cattle Egrets, Glossy Ibises, Green Herons, Tricolored Herons and Black-crowned Night-Herons busily building or enhancing nests, courting, incubating eggs, and raising chicks.

Children’s Educational Programs: The Second Grade Birdwatchers Program consists of classroom instruction and a field trip to the Rookery from January to April. A proposal to resume the Scrub Jay Program for fifth graders is in the works, and children’s activities are also part of events throughout the year.

Birding Field Trips: Volunteer hosts lead field trips from October through April at various sites in the area. Join us to learn about local birds and other flora and fauna!
